Unit 8: Waves, Sound, and Light
In unit 8, we will spend time learning about the physical nature of wave phenomena and its specific application to sound and light. These two seemingly disparate topics are actually manifestations of the same thing: waves. In physics, the study of waves has played a huge role in understanding the world around us. That continues to be true even as modern physics explores the smallest parts of our world with quantum ideas. So, as you learn about sound and light, recognize that knowing about waves will lay a strong foundation for further study in physics. Because there are so many topics covered here in unit 8, the number of presentations is larger than in other units. So, it will take a bit more time to work through this unit compared to the ones you've already completed. That said, most students find these topics very interesting and extremely practical. So, it's worth the time to learn the concepts in some depth.
