Unit 6: Systems and Energy
In unit 6, we will be discussing a new methodology for studying mechanical systems. Instead of analyzing the forces that act on or within a system, we'll determine how the energy associated with it can help to determine its behavior. We'll still be interested in motion, but with more tools in our tool bag, the solutions for many problem types will be more efficient using ideas associated with energy. The first thing to know is that energy is not mystical or magical as it's sometimes portrayed in nonscientific settings. It's a measureable quantity found in nature. As such, we need to learn about it in the same way we learned about other physical quantities; with a clear understanding of the basics.
