Unit 7: Electrostatics and Simple Circuit Analysis (Optional Unit)

Charged objects at rest and their flow through conductors will be the topics of this unit. You'll also see the connection to our previous study of gravitation in the similarity of equation structure for electrostatics. So, if you want to find out what makes your hair stand on end, this is the unit for you.

Suggested timeframe: 3 weeks. Since the topics found in this unit are not covered on the AP exam, this work is an optional and should be done after the AP exam.

Big Ideas:
•Physical systems (that may have internal structure) and objects (that do not have internal structure) can be characterized by certain properties. Mass and charge are two such properties.
•The concept of force can be used to describe the interactions between objects in systems or between systems themselves.
•Laws of conservation of certain properties of systems restrict the manner in which systems can change due to interactions.
